I didn’t see it coming. I had very different career plans.

Yet over the years watching the internet explode, I found myself swept into the creative world of digital marketing.

It’s been amazing to watch the emergence of the web, social media, and SEO and how they have catapulted digital marketing into an industry that is worth $83 billion today and heading to $120 billion by 2021 — according to Forbes.

So after years of learning and building behind the scenes, I decided to slow-start a digital marketing agency.

That was 3 years ago.

Today, my budding little agency (Allure22.com) has grown into a successful boutique brand & marketing agency specifically geared toward creative small businesses who really care about building their brands. Sounds like a super niche space, I know, but believe me, there’s plenty to go around.

Literally every day I think about how amazing my life is because of digital marketing.

I’m able to work from anywhere in the world at any time of the day or night.

I get paid to be a vital part of something really amazing: The success and growth of emerging brands.

Digital marketing is the single best thing that ever happened to my professional and financial life.

But don’t get me wrong, it’s work. If you’re thinking about digital marketing, and of course I think you should, you should know that it is not passive income. And it’s not “get rich quick.”

Here are the top 5 reasons I love digital marketing.

  1. It’s always in high demand

It’s lit. There are 30 million small businesses in the US. They almost all need a website, social media, and content creation. They all need digital marketing. The demand outpaces supply for good digital marketers. And if that’s you, you will never have to worry about money. This gives me the security that I prefer. I never had that in a job.

  1. It’s always creative

If you’re wired like me, this is a big deal. I love to be part of a creative process with business owners who are passionate about their brands. Usually, these are firebrands who are daring, excited about innovation, and open to new ideas. There are so many creative outlets for digital marketers — web development, writing, photography, video, and social media management — all things that require creativity. And it’s a blast.

  1. It’s always convenient

I can work from Miami. Or the Dominican Republic. Or wherever home is at the time. I can work from anywhere in the world, for any business in the world, at any time of the day or night. All I need is a laptop and a smartphone. In fact, I got started in digital marketing when I was flat broke with just a cheap Chromebook and an old iPhone 5. And anyone with a creative bone in their body can do it too. We all have the same internet.

  1. It’s always profitable

With the demand side so high, there will always be work out there. And work that provides great income for anyone with the chops to attract it. And if you’re good, you’ll never really have to sell yourself. Clients beget clients. You will always be someone’s best-kept secret. And that’s good because secrets leak and your phone will ring.

  1. It always pushes me

With tech constantly changing, there is a real need to stay on top of all the relevant and emerging technologies. I’m glad I didn’t let that scare me off. For every new widget that comes out, there are a hundred YouTube videos to walk you through it. But there’s also the creative push. Creativity gives life meaning.
